Afternoon Activities

SEIPS offers a variety of afternoon activities for all children, regardless if they are enrolled in our preschool programme or not. Activities are split into three categories: Expressing, Thinking and Moving. Please feel free to browse our popular courses to find the right extracurricular activity for your child!

  • Thematic Art

    The world would be a bland place indeed without visual art and this course takes theme-based art activities to the next level. Children will experience a variety of different techniques whilst improving their fine motor, creative thinking, experimenting and imagination skills to create a themed-based artwork. Works will include different media such as painting, constructing, Clay work, 2D and 3D art works. We will also be learning the techniques typical for various artists such as Van Gogh, Michael Angelo, Picasso, Dali and Monet.

    Teacher Penny’s years of experience with preschool children, coupled with her honed skills in producing creative projects for her classes, makes her a wonderful fit for this the role. Teacher Penny’s background boasts the important factors in ensuring that the art class continues to nurture out children’s talents without swaying too much from their familiar routine at SEIPS.

  • Music Together

    Music Together is an internationally-recognized early childhood music program for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, kindergarteners, and the adults who love music. First offered to the public in 1987, it pioneered the concept of a research-based, developmentally-appropriate early childhood music curriculum that strongly emphasizes and facilitates adult involvement. Music Together classes are based on the recognition that all children are musical.

    Priscilla attended several semesters of Music Together in Shanghai with her younger child and enjoyed the music thoroughly! 

Given the opportunity to attend the MT workshop in Tokyo, Japan, and be trained under director Julie Wu, Music Together has broadened her perspectives about music education in children. Music has always been a part of Priscilla’s life as she started to play the piano at the age of 4. She is excited and thrilled to be part of this musical journey at Music Together.

  • Piano Lessons

    Piano lessons are taught one on one to focus on a child’s individual needs. Piano lessons help preserve and develop children’s natural creative abilities and can help children learn to stay focused and achieve goals. Our classes suite both, beginners and advanced students. Students learn to read musical sheets, get a feeling for rhythm, and of course how to play songs. Playing piano develops coordination in both mind and muscles, which transfers to many daily activities. This can lead to improved hand-eye coordination, greater enjoyment and ability in sports, and the full use of both left and right sides of the brain.

    Teacher Sharon holds a Bachelor of Music with a major in Piano from the Wuhan Conservatory of Music, Wuhan. She is certified to teach piano to children and adults and has gained four years of teaching piano to children so far.

  • Advanced Mandarin

    The Advanced Mandarin curriculum is based on the formal pre-school education plan, and will help Chinese children to strengthen and further their level of Chinese. There are four classes a week, which use a step-by-step method to record the growth and development of your child’s Mandarin level. Math, Chinese Characters, Poetry & Idioms, Reading & Speaking.

  • Spanish Lessons

    Cucugua is a centre specialised in early stimulation for children. Through directed and coordinated activities they make the Spanish language learning process easy and encourage creativeness.

  • Mad Science

    Mad Science transforms laboratory science into fun, interactive learning experiences for kids from4-6 years of age.
    Their spectacular demonstrations, hands-on activities, and real world discussions make learning about science fun for kids! The interactive, one-hour after school science programmes are themed around particular areas of science and include such topics as rocketry, magnets, polymers, and even the science of toys. In each class, children are encouraged to give science a try and build their very own model rockets, periscopes, Mad Science putty, and more. Children even get to take home their science experiment to show Mom and Dad!

  • Kids Yoga

    The benefits of yoga are well known and include better mood, enhanced immune system, improved sleep as well as enjoyment! Even the youngest child can gain much from these benefits. Our experienced Yoga instructor will assist children in learning a variety of poses in a fun, safe and age-appropriate way. Through yoga children can improve their balance, posture, co-ordination and concentration skills whilst stretching, strengthening and relaxing.

    Caroline Luo is a certified yoga instructor with many years of experience teaching adults and children. She believes children can gain many benefits from her lessons including: Breath Control & Meditation, Stress Relief & Mood Enhancement, and Flexibility & Fitness.

  • Ballet


    The ballet lessons are based on the teaching styles of the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), which means we follow a developmentally and cognitively sound curriculum. With this we encourage age appropriate creativity, musicality, and physicality development. Children gain confidence, poise, and a solid framework on which to build classical ballet techniques. The young ballerinas will explore movement qualities, musicality, practice gross motor coordination and work on simple locomotion, enhancing the development of both their bodies and their minds!


    Qi teaches at the Four Seasons Dance Dream Academy in Shanghai. She is a certified dance instructor, issued by the Royal Academy of Dance and has over 4 years of teaching experience.

  • MultiSport is an expatriate operated professional sports coaching company who have been operating in Hong Kong for over twenty years and commenced operations in Shanghai in January 2006.

    Our partners include leading International Schools, Clubs and Residences where we provide a wide range of sports coaching programmes primarily for children aged 3 -12 years. MultiSport’s lessons are taught in English by our Full time international staff who are all qualified Physical Education coaches in addition to being qualified in various specialist disciplines such as Gymnastics, Trampolining, Soccer, Tennis or Swimming. All staff are CPR and St Johns First Aid qualified.

    Through our many years of providing a first class sports coaching service for the International community we have developed a quality tried and tested coaching curriculum for all our sports and have also been endorsed by a number of professional sporting bodies such as the British Gymnastics Association and the Amateur Swimming Association to provide internationally recognised awards. These progressive award schemes not only provide a systematic approach to learning but also provide an excellent opportunity for children to attain an internationally recognized standard which is a great incentive and motivator for participants. We also aim to ensure our programmes are great fun and interactive with plenty of warm up games and group participation encouraging sportsmanship, self confidence and the value of teamwork.

    Our guiding principal is to develop as many positive attitudes towards sport and physical activity as possible and so instil a love of sport that lasts throughout life.

    Gym for Tots

    Gym for Tots is a Physical Education Programme specifically designed for infants who can walk, to the age of three years. The programme has been developed to include many creative and imaginative ways to encourage physical activity, exercise and movement in a stimulating, safe and positive environment. The programme aims to develop self esteem confidence, social, listening and cognitive skills as well as physical skills such as co-ordination, agility and core strength.

    The programme has it own music, song and rhyme book, colourful equipment, activity cards and course syllabus and is based around standard gymnastics equipment. Each lesson plan is designed to teach Tots a variety of skills such as locomotion and co-ordination skills. Infants learn to participate in a group and respond to commands while developing confidence and self-esteem. Our Gym for Tots programme is designed specifically for the infant to develop motor skills in age related activities incorporating a variety of sensory stimuli to encourage movement and explore and expand their physical boundaries in a positive and happy environment.

    During each 30 minute session there will be an opportunity to run, climb, balance, roll, jump, play with balls, hoops, beanbags, quoits and skittles.

    Every child is given a Gym for Tot sticker book to bring to the class each week and at the end of the lesson they will receive an incentive sticker.

    Parents or guardians are expected to participate actively in the lessons and be responsible for the safety of their child.

    Gym for Tots is taught by qualified physical education coaches who have the ability to teach positively, create a happy and stimulating environment and are knowledgeable in child development.


    Gymnastics is an excellent physical activity encouraging co-ordination, strength, agility and flexibility and is an invaluable start to any child’s education.

    MultiSport Gymnastics is a Recreational programme for boys and girls from 3 year-old beginners to the advanced junior gymnast covering fundamental skills such as travelling, balance and jumping through to vaulting, floor and apparatus work.

    MultiSport gymnastics are endorsed to award the British Gymnastics Badge Schemes which provides the opportunity for gymnasts to achieve progressive awards. These award schemes are not only a great incentive and motivator for participants, but also provide a systematic approach to gymnastics. The following age groups give an indication of class description although streaming of classes in line with ability and awards shall take place particularly in the senior age groups.

    Ages 3 & 4

    Through a series of fun and imaginative movements and balances, children develop agility, flexibility, co-ordination and gain confidence and self-esteem. This course is an invaluable start to school and sport.

    Age 5-6

    Good body posture and flexibility are developed as children are introduced to floor work, beam, vaulting and balances.

  • Jazz Dance

    The Jazz lessons are conducted in the same way that the Jazz training takes place at the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD). However, the teacher’s flexible teaching approach encourages children to put into practice what has been learned and takes into consideration different abilities. Core ideas are to help strengthen the student’s confidence in dancing Jazz and putting self-expression abilities into practice. An equally beneficial effect is for the student to achieve good body posture and mold their behavior into elegance.

    Teacher Zhao is a Jazz & Ballet Teacher at the “Four Seasons Dance Dream Academy”. She holds a Senior Jazz Dance and Ballet Teacher certificate and has got eight years of teaching experience.
