For the 2016-2017 school year, we will have a new program for our 5-6 year olds: Pre-Primary. Our Pre-Primary class will prepare students for the transition from preschool education and care to international or bilingual primary school. The SEIPS “Stepping Stones Curriculum” has been designed and based on internationally recognised developmental continuums and curricula, which we have combined to reflect the development of children growing up in an international environment.
Pre-Primary will have a stronger focus on academic core subjects, such as literacy and mathematics, as we prepare them for the transition to primary school. However, there will still be many opportunities for students to play, explore, develop a sense of self and become stronger global citizens. This program will allow children to explore their talents by giving them leadership opportunities to share their knowledge with younger children, resources for hands on exploration of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM), and social awareness opportunities to give back to the community – all within a bilingual setting.
To ensure that all children are prepared for their transition to primary school, Transitional Educational Profiles will be made for each child to help target the areas of development needed for successful transition. These profiles will be created together with parents and pre-primary teachers. TEPs will be used to guide education whilst implementing differentiated teaching to suit the needs of individual children and prepare them for their school of choice.
Classes will be taught through instruction, small group-activities, partner work, and one-on-one with a teacher. Subjects will include Math, English Reading and Writing, Chinese Reading and Writing, 3D Art, Physical Education, Media, Music, Science, Geography, Painting, Drama, Astronomy, Musical Instruments, Imagination Art, Drawing, Measuring Math, Primary Prep, Culture and Social Studies.
Kindergarteners will take an active role in making their classrooms a creative, learning inspiring environment. Through independent and group learning, we will help students grow a deep love for themselves and their environment, inherit the concept of sharing and develop a judicious approach to discipline and lifelong learning. Courtesy, respect, manners, as well as fun, laughter and creativity fill these students’ busy days at SEIPS. The classrooms will all be bilingually instructed in equal proportions, and led by a team of two qualified Home Room Teachers and a Teaching Assistant.
A daily communication booklet, weekly letter, monthly syllabus and regular parent-teacher conferences will keep parents up to date on the activities and the child’s progress. Regular assessments throughout the year will document each child’s developmental milestones and achievements.
We are looking forward to positive results from this program, and hope that you are too!
Have a lovely weekend.
Warm regards, Sarah
